Ministry to Japanese Students and Expats

In the spirit of ecumenical and welcoming open-door Christian fellowship, Fife Anglican Fellowship has a developing outreach ministry to Japanese students and expats in Fife. Deacon Aaron and his wife Risa have a heart to reach out to and help Japanese as well as other internationals to acclimate to life in Scotland and find support. We hope you find a place of welcome, refreshment and fellowship admist the hustle and bustle of daily life with us.

Our present ministry

At present, we are resident in Fife just outside of Cupar and spend much of our time in Cupar, St Andrews and the surrounding areas. We invite members and friends of FAF over regularly for times of prayer, worship and fellowship, typically shaped around the Anglican liturgical calendar. We also have dinners from time to time so that we can share a home cooked meal and good conversation together.

In autumn 2024, we are working to launch a monthly meeting of Japanese and Japan-interested folk to gather and share our love for Jesus and for Japan. Aaron also hopes to start a biweekly Japanese Bible study at St Mary’s with other Japanese PhD students. Please drop him a message if you are interested in this or would just like to have a chat over a hot drink!

Your prayers and support are very much appreciated as we balance this calling along with our regular and somewhat chaotic daily lives as working parents, spouses, clergy and sons and daughters of God.

Where we come from

Deacon Aaron is from the U.S. but has spent time in Japan, Slovakia and most recently Scotland. A native (American!) English speaker and fluent Japanese speaker, he likes to dabble in languages, read good books, and enjoys theological and religious discussions centred around contextual expressions of faith. Ordained in the Reformed Episcopal Church (REC), he holds a license to minister on behalf of the REC-UK (FCoE) and serves ecumenically at All Saints Scottish Episcopal Church in St Andrews.

Risa is a U.S.-born Japanese national with a heart to help people understand and adapt to their international situations, especially when their adopted home culture contrasts distinctly with their own. A native Japanese speaker also fluent in English, she has a mixed background in higher education and business as well as a passion for early childhood, special needs and disadvantaged education.
